About this Piece

Mushel was a pianist and composer who taught at the Conservatory in the remote region of Tashkent in Uzbekistan. His Toccata comes from a Suite on Uzbek folk melodies. If the Slonimsky work conjures up savage dancers, in the Mushel they mount their steeds and ride off furiously, exhilarated by its driving, pounding rhythm.
