Pyramid Song, which was released on Radiohead’s 2001 album Amnesiac, confirmed the band’s role as Britain’s leading art rock experimentalists. Rhythmically and harmonically we are in unsettling realms. A 4/4 beat is syncopated into virtual barlessness. Drums find themselves at odds with the ensemble. Harmonic choices - the major and minor 9ths and dissonances - add a Middle Eastern humidity. All of it conspires to create a Satie-like feeling of lostness.
