Lio Itaya

About this Artist

Lio is a 17-year-old composer and violinist and has been a fellow in the LA Phil Composer Fellowship Program since 2023. They started composing music in 7th grade when they participated in the Brightwork High School Composer Initiative with Nina Shekhar as their mentor. Lio studies violin with Elizabeth Hedman at Pasadena Conservatory of Music and has been a member of the Pasadena Youth Symphony Philharmonic Orchestra for the past 4 years. In summer, they have attended various music programs such as Boston Conservatory High School Composition Intensive, Interlochen Summer Arts Camp Orchestra Program, and Summer Chamber Intensive as a violist at Pasadena Conservatory.

Lio is proud of their Japanese heritage and has been participating in community events such as the Nisei Week Parade in Little Tokyo as a member of Nihon Buyou dance group. They also continue to study Japanese and learn about Asian history and culture in their spare time.
