John Davis is an African American composer, musical director and drummer with over 20 years experience in the music industry performing and working with top acts, including Grammy Award-Winning artists: Cassandra Wilson, Esperanza Spalding, Ben Williams, Nicholas Payton and Broadway superstar, Leslie Odom Jr. of Hamilton.
As a composer, Davis blends traditional with modern, influenced by his global travels. His hybrid style brings unique versatility to the work ranging from classical, soundscape, sound design, dance, 80s and world. Latest work includes that of tech giants, Google, Amazon, Meta, and AirBnB.
He has performed at some of the world's top venues across 40+ countries; made special appearances on major national TV broadcasts, The Today Show, NBA MLK Celebration, NBC Rockefeller Christmas Tree Lighting and Clive Davis’ Grammy Party; a TED Talk in Trinidad & Tobago; a national TV advertising campaign for Nationwide Insurance; and led musical workshops in Portugal, Spain, Italy and Switzerland.
With an impressive discography, Davis has recorded on over 20 albums across his career, including Leslie Odom Jr.’s Simply Christmas Deluxe Edition on S-Curve Records; and Japanese pianist Chihiro Yamanaka’s, Rosa, on Blue Note Records (2020). He is currently co-producing projects with two rising stars, vocalist Sarah Elizabeth Charles and Haitian pianist, Willerm Delisfort.
