Moni Vargas

Moni Vargas is an Afro-Colombian storyteller who works in music, film and the healing arts. She is a three-time Emmy-nominated and award winning director through Friends We Love, a Latine-owned production company she co-founded in 2008.

As a vinyl collector and professional DJ for over two decades, Moni has shared billing with Paul McCartney, Massive Attack, Amy Winehouse, Janelle Monae and Erykah Badu. She has performed in cities throughout four continents and released two CDs, one for The Fader Magazine and another for Japan’s Toys Factory record label, which she promoted with a DJ tour in Japan. She has also served as an on-stage DJ and musical director for theater musicals, earning a Helen Hayes Theater Award nomination in 2005.

Moni has graced the cover of The Village Voice and rocked crowds at New York’s Central Park Summerstage, Brooklyn Museum, the Apollo Theater and Winter Music Conference as well as the select clientele of top luxury hotels like The Standard and fashion houses like Issey Miyake.
