About this Performance
Bajo La Luna honors the tradition and transformative power of song from across Latin America. Through fresh, inspired interpretations of the craft, it brings together two acclaimed singer-songwriters: La Muchacha from Colombia and Y La Madrigal from Mexico and the US. This evening showcases two pillars of contemporary songwriting in celebration of heritage as a living, evolving force.
La Muchacha is a powerful and striking presence in Latin American songwriting. Often called a protest singer, she speaks truth loudly, gently, and without fear. Her music speaks of land, resistance, community, and daily life, merging sweetness with urgency in a way that makes her songs catalysts for the present moment.
Y La Madrigal is the latest project from Luz Elena Mendoza, the force behind Y La Bamba, a band that has captivated audiences worldwide for over a decade. With Y La Madrigal, Mendoza reimagines songs from her own repertoire and from the broader Latin American songbook, joined by a choir of special guests. Together, they will shape an intimate act of creation to be witnessed for the first time on the Ford stage.
Bajo La Luna is about honoring the past while making space for what comes next. It’s a proclamation of the power of song to transform lives and shift the course of our world. It is a moment of soft release and collective dreaming.
